Oh Holland

Võib öelda, et ma olen nüüd päris Hollandi elu kogenud... Kuna ma suutsin peale poolteist aastat ratta pealt kukkuda. Antud sündmus lõppes verise põlve ja ühe suure sinakaga (ja natukene ratta lõhkumisega), kuid tegelikult oli siin kolm põhilist tegurit, mis aitasid kaasa selle suurejoonelise juhtumiga: 

1. Vihma sadas päris tugevasti - maapind oli libe (ja õues oli pime)
2. Trammirööpad - kõik ratturid teavad, et tegemist on väga tüütute asjandustega keset teed
3. Väikene alkoholi kogus minu veres

Seega, kõik kolm faktorit kokkupanduna... Ja saingi endale ühe ilusa kukkumise kirja panna. Palju õnne, Elle-Mari.

Kool on meil võrdlemisi jõuluvaheajal- pooled õpilastest on juba oma koduriikides nautimas mõnusat vaheaega, ning pooled õppejõud on otsustanud, et ega neil pole enam meile midagi targemat seletada. Seega homme näiteks on väikene jõulu-shopingu päev mul. Täna oli grupi-kohtumine ja tahtsin oma kallid Hiina õpilased uisutama viia... Kahjuks oli rannas nii suur tuul ja külm, et mul hakkas kahju hiinakatest. Selle asemel otsustasime hoopis Burger Kingi istuma minna ja rääkisime seal paar tundi juttu nii elust Hollandis, Hiinast ja õppisin ka paar roppust Hiina keeles. Mu hääldus oli küll mingil imelikul kombel väga naljakas kõigi jaoks... 

Nädalavahetusel sai paar Jõulupidustust peetud. Reedel oli kursuse jõulupidu (noh peale seda saigi see eelpool mainitud kukkumine kirja). Laupäeval oli siinsete tüdrukutega väike istumine, mis oli väga armas. Ja söögirohke muidugi. 

Igatahes, aasta hakkab tõesti läbi saama. Lahe ja hirmuäratav samaaegselt. Ja kohe varsti olen kodus lalalala, neljapäeval seega :)

I may finally say that I have lived the real Dutch life... Simply because after year and half I finally managed to fell on a bike. The event result was a nice bloody knee, with couple of bruises here and there (and tiny bit broken bike). Overall, there were three main factors that helped me to achieve this amazing happening:

1. It was raining quite heavily- therefore the ground was slippery (and it was dark outside)
2. The tram tracks - every cyclist knows that these are very terrifying 
3. The small amount of alcohol in my blood

So, all these three factors put together... And yay, I finally fell. Congratulations, Elle-Mari.

The university is almost on a holiday- half of the students are back in their home countries whereas half of the lecturers have also decided that they do not need to educate us any longer. So tomorrow for example, I am planning to do some Christmas shopping. Today, I had a group meeting and I wanted to take my lovely students ice-skating... But sadly it was too windy and cold on the beach and I felt sorry for them to suffer in a cold weather. Therefore, we went to Burger King and spent 2 hours there just chatting about the life in the Netherlands, about China, and I also learnt couple of naughty words in Chinese. For some weird reason my pronunciation was very entertaining... 

Over the weekend I had couple of Christmas events. On Friday we had our course Christmas party (well after that I managed to fall on a bike as mentioned before). On Saturday we had a small Christmas party with my girlfriends here, which was very lovely. And of course full of food.

Anyways, the year is kind of passing by. Cool and scary at the same time. And I am almost home, lalallaa, can't wait til Thursday :)

Lugesin hommikul artiklit

Hoiatan ette ära, et antud postitus pole kuidagi seotud Hollandiga ega minu siinse eluga. Pigem arvamus.

Nimelt lugesin Delfi Rahvahääle alt arvamuslugu: "Endine vang: kui tuled välja ja su nimi on Google's, ei saa sa Eestis mingit tööd" (link on siin). Kokkuvõtvalt ütleb antud isik, et tuleb muuta vanglasüsteemi, mis aitaks inimestel areneda nagu näiteks keelte õppimine, kuna tööd leida on väga väga keeruline. Eks ikka, Google's on kõik kättesaadav ja sinna pole midagi parata. Minu esmamulje sellest artiklist oli ausaltöeldes positiivne. Tore näha, et ka kunagi valesti käitunud isikud mõtlevad, kuidas saaks areneda ja enda elu jälle järje peale saada. 

Kuna tegemist on vastuolulise artikliga, otsustasin ma piiluda kommentaaridesse. 

Mu imestus oli suur, kui avastasin selle negatiivsuse, mis seal ringi liigub! Kommentaare on üle 100, ma  vaatasin läbi umbes pooled... Ja ma ei leidnud MITTE ÜHTEGI, MITTE ÜHTEGI kommentaari mis oleks toetanud antud isiku arvamust. Absoluutselt kõik kommentaarid, mis minu silmade alt läbi käisid, teavitasid targalt ja suurelt, et sellised peavadki vangi jääma ja ega neile ei peagi tööd andma. No tule taevas appi! 

Inimene, kellelt nõudis antud artikli kirjutamine suurt julgust tõenäoliselt, saab ainult negatiivset vastukaja. Ta pakkus kõigest idee! Idee, mis võiks aidata! Idee välja pakkumine ei tähenda, et kohe hakatakse midagi vanglasüsteemides muutma ja kõikide kommenteerijatest maksumaksjate raha selle peale kulutama. 

Miks peab kõik kohe maha tegema? Võib-olla tegi inimene mingi rumala vea, mille tõttu ta pidi vangi minema. See ei tähenda, et ta on nüüd eluaegne kurjategija. Hetkel kommentaare lugedes jääb mulje, et kõik sõnavõtjad arvavad, et vangistustes olevad isikud on karmid kriminaalid. 

Üldiselt ei võeta antud teemadel palju sõna. Endised vangid teavad kõige paremini, mis nende elus toimub, mitte kommenteerijad. Tuleb välja, et kui keegi julgebki sõna võtta, siis inimesed lihtsalt teevad selle nii maha kui võimalik! 

Võiks olla veidi tolerantsem. Maksumaksja raha kulutatakse nii kui nii vanglate peale, vahet pole kus riigis parasjagu elad. 

Mulle lihtsalt meeldis näha, et inimene tõesti mõtleb, kuidas saaks areneda. Näha on, et ta on keerulises olukorras. Ma ei ütle, et kui ma oleksin tööandja, siis ma võtaks kohe endise vangi tööle, et talle võimalust anda. Aga mulle meeldis, et ta tõesti pakkus välja ühe variandi kuidas aidata kaasa olukorra parandamisele. Autori argumendid polnud küll kõige tugevamad, aga seal oli lootust.

Ma teadvustan endale siinkohal, et võib-olla olen ma liiga sinisilmne, et nõustun autori arvamusega. Ma mõistan, et paljudel juhtudel ei toimi asjad nii lihtsalt, et inimene lahkub vanglast ja tahab siiralt uut ja õiget elu alustada. Kuid ma isiklikult usun, et leidub inimesi, kes tõesti on võimelised muutuma.




Ok, English translation. Generally speaking- it is about the attitude of Estonians. And how negative it often is...


So this blog post has nothing to do with my life in the NL. It is just an opinion.
So I was reading Estonian news site the other morning, a section where people can contribute and share their opinion about various topics. The title of article was something like that: "Ex prisoner: If you get out and your name is on Google then you cannot find any job in Estonia". The link is above in Estonian description. Anyways, generally, the person explains that the prison system needs to be changed in a way, that the prisoners would have an opportunity to educate themselves- for example to learn a new language. The truth is, that no one can do anything against the fact that their names can be found on Google. The arguments given by the person weren't the strongest ones, but at least he was explaining the situation and he actually gave an idea of how to improve the situation. My first impression was positive, as I saw clearly that even though the person has done something wrong in the past, he still think of how to improve and move on with his life.

I realized that the article is rather contradicting, and therefore I decided to check the comments. My surprise was big when I found this huge negativity there! There are over 100 comments, I checked around half of them... And I couldn't find even ONE comment which would support the arguments given by the author. Absolutely every single comment that passed my eyes were stating smartly that these kind of people should stay in prison and they don't need to get a job. Oh my god! 

The person, who took the courage to write and publish this article, receives only negative responses. He only proposed an idea! Idea, which could improve the situation! That doesn't mean that they start changing the prisons right away and all the commenters (tax payers in most cases) money will be spent on that! (They often argued, that they are paying for the prisoners etcetc.)


Why do we have to be so negative? Maybe the person made one silly mistake in the past, and he had to be sent for the prison. That doesn't mean necessary that we are dealing with someone who is going to be a criminal the whole life. At the moment, when reading the comments, it seems that everyone thinks that only hard crime executers are jailed.
Generally not many people talk or discuss these topics- as it seems some kind of taboo. The ex-prisoners know the best what is happening in their lives, not the commenters. It seems that if someone has the courage to state their opinion in Estonia, then most of the people will oppose them as much as they can. 

We could be bit more tolerant. I mean, tax-payers money is spent on prisons anywhere, doesn't matter what country you are living at.
I just liked to read that people think and propose ideas of how the situations could be improved. It is clear that he is in a complicated situation. I am not saying, that if I would be an employer, I would hire an ex-prisoner right away. But I liked that he actually had an idea, a solution, of how to change things. Yes, the arguments were rather weak in some cases, but there was hope.

I am aware, that maybe I am being too naive when agreeing with the author. I understand that in many cases the things don't work out that simply, that prisoners always want to change their life. However, I believe that there are cases where the people are able to change and start a new page in their lives.

Sotsiaalmeediast ja jõuludest

Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn.... Need on kolm sotsiaalmeedia platvormi, millega olen lähemalt tutvust teinud viimased 2-3 nädalat. Nimelt sotsiaalmeedia ja veebikirjutamise kursuse raames pidime endale looma LinkedIn profiili, Twitteris peaksime aktiivselt osa võtma (mu aktiivsus seal on alla igasuguse arvestuse küll) ja Pinterest'is teeme ühte tiimitööd nii öelda. Lisaks pidime looma blogi, mida saate vaadata SIIN - suunatud tegelikult potentsiaalsetele Greenpeace toetajatele, et nad ikka päästaksid Arktika ookeani naftapuurijate eest... Antud projekti raames peaksin ma seda liikumist suurejooneliselt toetama, aga kahjuks mu loogiline mõtlemine ütleb mulle, et need rahajanulised naftatootjad hakkavad seal Jäämeres ikka puurima oma õli. Ega neid väga ei huvita see ümbruskond seal. 

Jõulud kohe ukse taga. No mitte kohe, 20 päeva siiski veel, kuid siin keerleb kõik Jõulude ümber. Kas siis oodatakse ootusärevalt, millal koduriikidesse saadakse või siis räägitakse, kui palju projekte vaja enne Jõule veel lõpetada. Mõlemat pidi on tegemist suurejoonelise sündmusega, mis saabub tohutu kiirusega. Osati on see muidugist meeldiv, sest ma peaaegu loen ka päevi, mil koju saan (15 päeva!!). Ainukene asi, mida ma ei oota, on tähtajad. Kõiksugused tähtajad...

Unistuste jõulud

Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn... Three social media sites that I have been in a close relationship with in the past 2-3 weeks. We have a course of Social Media and Web Writing, and for that we had to create a profile for LinkedIn, engage in Twitter conversations (my activity is basically non-existing there), and we also created a Pinterest for one team-work project. Also, we had to create a blog, which can be found HERE - it is actually targeted towards potential Greenpeace volunteers , so that they would save the Arctic from all those oil drilling threats... In this project I should be supporting the cause greatly, but in reality my logical thinking tells me that those money-driven oil companies will start drilling in Arctic anyways... I don't think they care about the environment much 

Christmas is almost here. 20 days to go, but everything turns around Christmas. There are two options currently: whether everyone is anticipating the time when they get back to their home-countries, or everyone is talking about the approaching deadlines. Anyway, both ways the excitement can be felt in the air. Part of it is obviously pleasant, as I am also almost counting days til home (15 days to go!!). But the part, which I am not waiting is the deadlines....
